Exactly Ten Months Post Surgery!

It's been a while since I have updated my blog and everything is going really well! My recovery process has been amazing. I now run about five miles a day and I generally feel no pain. I will get an occasional, quick pain, but it goes away pretty quickly. I am playing lacrosse in college and training doesn't bother my foot either. The only problems I have are with push-ups and lunges because it still makes me nervous and is a little bit painful to hold a lot of weight in those positions. The scar is almost nonexistent since it is on the bottom of my foot and the skin rubs off and regenerates often. I am still so happy and grateful I was able to have this procedure done. My surgeon, Mark Myserson, was so helpful and I still highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a foot/ankle surgeon! Thank you everyone for keeping up with my blog! I hope it is useful and keeps everyone updated!

  1. Hi there,

its been great to read about your recovery. I am just wondering if you have ever used an underwater treadmill to walk/run during your recovery or if you have any information about using an underwater treadmill with this injury?

    thanks

    1. Hi Melissa!
Have you gotten this surgery? If so how far along are you? I did not use an underwater treadmill and my doctor never mentioned it! I did enjoy using the elliptical though!
Hope this helps and good luck,
      Erin

  2. Erin,
Thank you for posting about your experience! I'm in the process of deciding whether or not to proceed with the fibular sesamoidectomy. I have a couple of in depth questions for you; do you have an email address I can email you at? Please email your info at jen63139@hotmail.com

    Thanks!
    Jennifer

  3. Hi,
I was curious about how long it took you to have the same athletic level as before. I'm 17 and have had a fractured sesamoid for two years from volleyball. I would love to continue playing, but it is hard to keep up with the conditioning and jump training because of the pain. I would love to hear you overall view on surgery, and how you feel now after two years

    1. Hi Bailey!
To gain everything back took a really short amount of time. I was running after a month and a half or two months. It's just hard doing things like planks and lunges because of the scar tissue even still today. Definitely worth it though!! If you want to talk more about it, please email me! erin.callahan.13@cnu.edu
